Flying with Food Allergies and Intolerances

✈️ Traveling with Food Allergies and Intolerances Sucks —Here’s How I Make It Work Let’s be real— food allergies and intolerances are tough in everyday life , but they become a whole new level of complicated when you’re traveling. One of the most common questions I get is: "How do you safely eat while traveling?" Well, here's the honest truth: I rely on a mix of research, blind faith, and lots of planning —especially before I even book the trip. 🚗 Road Trips = Less Stress When traveling by car in the U.S., I feel a lot more in control. I pack a cooler stocked with safe, go-to foods: Gluten-free sandwiches Roasted chicken and rice Gluten-free cookies and chips LOTS of water I stop at gas stations to use their microwaves if I need to heat up a meal, and I keep a stash of utensils on hand. It’s not glamorous—but it works. ✈️ Air Travel = A Whole Different Beast Flying is way more stressful, especially with food restrictions. He...

4 Days in Tenerife: My Honest Travel Diary of an All-Inclusive Island Escape

If you're dreaming of volcanic beaches, moody Atlantic sunsets, and a break from the typical vacation scene, this one’s for you. ✈️  Day 1: Midnight Arrival & Tramp Stamps Tenerife was cloaked in darkness when I landed. After being directed to the “Third Country” line at passport control (not to be confused with  third-world , thank you very much), I waited for my turn. The agent scanned my passport, ensured I wasn’t a felon or heretic, and gave me a stamp—a proud new "tramp stamp" for my travel book. Bags collected, I found the shuttle through  LoveHolidays.com  and boarded, just in time for Peter Cetera to serenade us with  “It’s Hard for Me to Say I’m Sorry.”  Very fitting, since we waited another hour for stragglers to join. My hotel was located an hour away on the other side of the island. By the time I checked in—at 2 a.m.—I was running on fumes. The receptionist was chipper; I was not. I nodded through his rapid-fire information dump, dragged my ...

The Process of Becoming You

Grief is not just felt because of the death of a loved one; it is the death of a relationship or an idea. Despite knowing you are making the right decision in life, the ending or the death of what you once had or believed is just as heart-wrenching and piercing as actually losing someone. Why? You lose pieces of yourself in the process. Pieces break off and float away in the wind or turn to ash in an instant, and everything you thought or knew is wrong or robbed from you. You become numb, you replay conversations, second-guess your choices, and you grieve the loss of something that was an integral part of y...

That Feeling...

As I board the plane, the knot in my stomach loosens, and I feel like I can breathe and not be on high alert. Most people are stressed by flying and traveling, but not me. I have some food issues, which can cause stress, but the idea of not having any responsibility other than myself is a sweet treat.  I have always been a caretaker, in one way or another. I helped my mom with my siblings when I was younger, I watched out for my friends, making sure they didn't do anything dumb, although I was also the ring leader.  I take care of my family and my friends. But I always seem to forget to take time for myself. But that was changing; I was reminding myself every day that I had to prioritize my health, both physical and mental.  As the plane doors shut and the adventure's about to begin, I could finally let go and just breathe.
